Fearless and bold, Blood at the Root tackles all the relevant issues of racial injustice and double standards as it surrounds one controversial event involving the "Jena Six." Inspired by actual events that took place on December 4, 2006, the drama follows six black students from Jena High School who were convicted in the beating of one white student. Diving further into the lives of the young students, the play focuses on what it means to define yourself amidst the relentless injustice happening in America. Blending poetry, music and dance, Blood at the Root uncovers the shattering state of black family life.
