Tenth Avenue Arts Center
E Street 930 10th Avenue San Diego
The Tenth Avenue Arts Center and The Casual Company go Deep In Shepard Territory again with Sam Shepard's Buried Child directed by Joe Powers. This production of the 1979 Pulitzer Prize winner is part of a month-long tribute to Shepard. One of America's most beloved playwrights. Buried Child takes a bizarre look at one American Midwestern family living under a cloud of guilt that stems from a dark secret that slowly emerges in the midst of chaotic and, eventually, macabre family interaction. When Vince brings his girlfriend, Shelly, home to meet his family, she is at first charmed by the "normal" looking farm house which she compares to a "Norman Rockwell" cover. But that's before she actually meets his crazy family - his ranting, alcoholic grandparents (Dodge and Halie) and their two sons: Tilden, a hulking semi-idiot, and Bradley, who has lost one leg to a chain saw. Don't miss Shepard's 1979 Pulitzer Prize winner.
